Many new players dig down the mines floor by floor without a clear plan, draining all energy yet failing to gather enough copper, iron and gold for tool upgrades, sprinklers and kegs. This guide follows the 1.6 official version and covers mine unlock rules, ore distribution by floors, essential supplies, mining professions and common pitfalls, letting you stockpile ores steadily during early gameplay.
1. Basic Mine Unlock Rules
- Unlock Date: On Spring 5 of Year 1, you will receive a letter about clearing the mountain. The mine entrance north of the lake, left of the Adventurer’s Guild, will open permanently.
- Elevator System: Every 5 floors unlock a permanent elevator checkpoint for fast travel, so you won’t have to dig through every layer repeatedly. The mine has 120 floors total. Reaching Floor 120 rewards the Skull Key to access the Skull Cavern in the Desert.
- Knockout Penalties
- Zero HP knockout: Lose most carried items; weapons and tools are usually preserved, plus a maximum 1,000g gold deduction.
- Pass out after 2 AM: Only lose 10% gold, with no item loss. Try to head back before 1 AM.
- Daily Luck Mechanic: Check the TV fortune forecast each day. Mining on Very Lucky / Lucky days drastically raises spawn rates of ladders, rare ores and treasure chests. Prioritize mining on lucky days if you lack resources.
2. Must-Have Supplies for Mining Trips
Tools
- Pickaxe: Upgrade as soon as possible. Copper Pickaxe takes two hits per rock; Iron Pickaxe only one hit to save massive energy.
- Weapon: Purchase steel weapons from the Adventurer’s Guild early to avoid taking heavy damage fighting monsters.
- Bombs (Cherry Bomb / Regular Bomb): Clear large rock clusters instantly and speed up ladder hunting.
- Craftable Ladders: Made from 99 Stone each. Use them directly if no natural ladders spawn to save travel time.
Food (Energy & HP Recovery)
Prioritize cheap, high-restoration options: Wild Leeks, Dandelions, Omelets. Save Lucky Lunch for wealthy players, which grants a Luck buff to boost gem and chest drops.
Auxiliary Accessories
Magnet Ring, Glow Ring (looted from chests) auto-collect dropped ores. Expand your backpack early — ores and geodes take up huge inventory space.
3. Three Mine Zones & Optimal Ore Farming Floors
The mine is split into three biomes with unique ores, monsters and chest rewards: Mud Floors (1–39), Ice Floors (40–79), Lava Floors (80–120). Farm designated floors based on the ore you need.
Floors 1–39 (Copper Zone, Early-Game Core)
- Main Ores: Copper Ore, Quartz, Amethyst. Copper density peaks on Floors 31–39 with plenty of Geodes.
- Fast Farm Spot: Floor 21 has a tiny map. Teleport to Floor 20, descend to 21. If few ores spawn, warp back to the entrance to fully reset the floor for infinite copper respawns.
- Chest Loot: Floor 10 – Leather Boots; Floor 20 – Steel Mail, boosting defense to reduce incoming damage.
Floors 40–79 (Iron Zone, Mid-Game Essential)
- Main Ores: Iron Ore, Aquamarine. Coal spawns abundantly here. Farm Floors 41–60 if you run short of coal. Small Diamond veins start spawning from Floor 50 onward.
- Fast Farm Spot: Floor 41. Repeatedly warp in and out to refresh iron veins for mass iron bars needed for sprinklers, coops and barns.
- Monsters: Frost Slimes, Bats, Dust Sprites, which drop Coal on kill.
- Chest Loot: Floor 50 – Snow Boots; Floor 60 – Crystal Dagger.
Floors 80–120 (Gold Zone, Late-Game Income Source)
- Main Ores: Gold Ore, Ruby, Jade, Diamond, large quantities of Magma Geodes.
- Fast Farm Spot: Floor 81. Loop this layer for Gold Bars required for high-tier tools and greenhouse construction.
- Tough Enemies: Shadow Brutes, Lava Crabs — bring strong weapons and plenty of healing food to sustain fights.
- Key Rewards: Floor 10 – Stardrop (permanent max energy boost); Floor 120 – Skull Key to unlock the Desert Skull Cavern.
4. Mining Level 5 & Level 10 Professions
Choose your Level 5 profession carefully, as it shapes your entire ore farming efficiency.
- Miner (Recommended for New Players)
Every ore vein drops 1 extra ore, doubling your copper, iron and gold stockpile speed. Perfect for early-game material shortages.
- Geologist
All gem veins drop double gems. Only viable late-game for weapon forging; not suggested for Year 1 beginners.
Level 10 Advanced Specializations
- Miner Branch: Furnace smelting speed doubled for fast bulk ingot crafting.
- Geologist Branch: Every gem rock drops an additional Geode.
5. Practical Efficient Mining Tips
- Ladder Clue: A dripping water sound when hitting rock means a ladder is nearby. Clear all monsters first if spawns are overcrowded, as ladders won’t generate until all foes are defeated.
- Bomb Strategy: Save bombs for large rock piles only — never waste them on single stones to conserve supplies.
- Geode Management: Stock up batches and crack them all at once with Clint the Blacksmith to avoid wasting inventory space mid-run. Geodes drop artifacts, gems and rare loot.
- Floor Reset Loop: Warp between the elevator entrance and target floors to fully refresh rocks, ores and enemies for unlimited ore farming.
- Monster Tactics: Avoid unnecessary combat early on; focus only on mining. Eat food immediately when low HP to prevent knockout and item loss.
6. Stage-by-Stage Mining Plan
Spring Year 1 (Copper Shortage)
Loop Floors 21 and 31 to collect Copper Ingots for Watering Can upgrades, Furnaces and basic Sprinklers. Gather Quartz and Wild Leeks along the way for energy restoration.
Summer Year 1 (Mass Iron Demand)
Farm Floor 41 repeatedly for Iron Ore and Coal to craft Quality Sprinklers, Coops and Barns.
Fall Year 1 (Gold Requirement)
Push past Floor 80 and loop Floor 81 for Gold Ingots needed for Iridium tool preparations and greenhouse materials. Collect all gems for future weapon enchanting.
Winter Year 1 (Clear to Floor 120)
No outdoor crops grow in Winter — spend full days mining to reach Floor 120 and obtain the Skull Key, unlocking access to Iridium farming in the Skull Cavern for Year 2.
7. Common Mining Mistakes New Players Make
- Do not rush deep mine layers early with weak weapons and insufficient food — frequent knockouts will cost you valuable loot.
- Leave empty slots in your backpack for ores, geodes and treasure chest rewards.
- Never waste bombs on isolated single rock nodes; reserve them for dense rock clusters only.
- Avoid deep mining on days with low luck — rare ores and chests barely spawn, wasting your energy.
- Do not sell all star-quality ores and gems immediately; save a stock for Community Center bundles, gifting and weapon forging.
- Never stay mining past 1 AM to avoid heavy gold loss from passing out at 2 AM.
- Do not blindly rush Floor 120 early. Secure enough copper and iron to finish core farm buildings before venturing into the lava layers.
Final Thoughts
New miners do not need to clear all 120 floors in one go. Farm targeted floors based on your seasonal resource needs: Floor 21 for copper, Floor 41 for iron, Floor 81 for gold. Combine bombs, craftable ladders and lucky days to drastically speed up ore collection. This eliminates material bottlenecks holding back farm upgrades, processing machine construction and smooth early-game progression.
